Fallon and Declan sat in the row in front of me in class. They laughed while working on an assignment together, and I couldn’t help but think about how the two of them used to hook up regularly. I was no longer jealous of what happened between them, but I was envious they could spend time together in front of others without worrying about the repercussions.

I wanted that. I wanted to date Fallon without feeling as though I needed to look over my shoulder all the time. Without being worried the other agents might think I was standing a little too close or see the desire in my eyes every time I looked at the person who had stolen a piece of my heart already.

Fallon and I took advantage of the time we spent alone in his condo before and after school, but finding opportunities to do things other couples enjoyed was difficult. The trip to the chocolaterie with Poppy a couple weeks ago had been a lot of fun. Watching him interact with my daughter had me falling just a little harder for him, but I also wanted to go on one-on-one dates with him.

When class was over, Fallon and I headed over to The Daily Grind, a coffee shop on campus, for a quick caffeine fix before his last class of the day.

“You want anything?” Fallon asked Day after he completed a quick sweep of the coffeehouse.

“I’m good, but thank you.” Day held open the door so Fallon and I could enter but stayed outside.

The smell of coffee brewing and fresh baked pastries filled the small café. We placed our orders at the counter and moved to the side to wait for the barista to prepare our drinks. Fallon had told me earlier he didn’t have any plans after school, and an idea struck.

“Do you want to see a movie instead of going back to your condo this afternoon?” I wondered.

He balked slightly. “You’d rather watch a movie than spend the rest of your shift in my bed?”

I shrugged. “I’ve been wanting to take you on a date for a while, and if we go right after class, we’ll probably have time alone at your place before Bernard shows up.”

“That sounds tempting. What are you going to tell Day?”

I smiled. “I’m not going to tell him anything. You are.”

He glared at me playfully. “So, even though the date was your idea, you’re making me do all the work for it to happen?”

I leaned closer to him and whispered, “It’s better if he thinks it’s a spur-of-the-moment idea on your part. Besides, I’ll make it worth your while.”

He brushed his hand against my leg and gave it a little squeeze. “You better.”

We picked up our drinks when the barista called our names and then made our way outside. Fallon looked at me, and I gave him a subtle nod.

He stepped beside Day and said, “It’s been a hell of a week with school. I think I’m going to head to the movies after class to destress.
